The improvement
of morality and
religion to and
morality have
unquestionably
gone hand in
hand. But
how? Is it
religion that has
meliorated and
improved morality
fortified? – No –
it is morality
that has corrected
and improved religion.

Places Premiums
for Perjury.

Places or other
advantages, to
the enjoyment
of which oaths
subscriptions or
religious ceremonies
are
made necessary,
are so many
premiums for
perjury, solemn
falshood & profanation.

How easy would
it be for the English
Clergy to
rescue themselves
from this foul
reproach, and
place themselves
upon a level with
the rest of mankind
in point of
probity, if they
thought it prudent or worth their while?
