5. Numbers, by can skreening non-attendance
enable men to foll practice be guilty of partiality without
risk. In an indefensible cause, non-attendance
is half a vote.
Numbers by skreening non-attendance afford
a sure receipt for practising the grossest partiality,
and yet at the same time eluding the grasp
of public censure altogether. In an indefensible
cause non-attendance is half a vote. A majority
it is true, cannot carry a cause by

will not carry a cause. But some men have
a degree of resolution firmness in iniquity which
others want. A cause too may appear defensible
and even just to one man, while to another it
shall appear not more unjust than indefensible.
Besides that a man who could find has found something
to say either way may have fixed himself one
way by having given a decided strong opinion given
on the same point in anoth a former cause.
Numbers then, by skreening non-attendance
enable a man in spite of public opinion to give
the effect of half a vote to the most odious cause.
