Parochial worth while to engage the services of a professional
Judge, while could their circumstances even admitt
of it, while the same cause will prevent the
burthen from being too great for the Ecclesiastical
Minister who has other already other duties to the
burthen which this will come in addition.
6 Comparative advantage of the Committee's Courts & my Parish Judges It remains to strike the ballance in point
of advantage between my plan of parochial
or quasi-parochial Courts and the Committees
establishment of Canton Courts.
In one particular their plan will naturally
have the advantage over mine. The establishment
being carried equally over the whole country kingdom
will in every part of it be paid for at the common
expence of the whole kingdom. In this
there may be apparent inequality, but there is
real justice. The apparent inequality is that
a canton containing an opulent town will often
pay more towards the expence of a Canton Court
for a neighbouring poor and thinly-peopled in
the neighbourhood than that canton itself does.
But the inequality is only apparent: for the extra-benefit
is equal to the extra-burthen. If the
inhabitants of a wild country-Canton were without
justice so much the worse not only for themselves
