This work is the product of the joint my own labours in conjunction assisted by
those of with those of my Nephew, in whose person notwithstanding
a twelve year residence in another country I have
found the no less unexpected then gratifying satisfaction
of finding an assistant more competent than I could have
hoped to find elsewhere

It would certainly have been more agreeable to myself
and naturally to all persons in whose opinion anticipation is favourable my
own labours afford a promise of introduction to the accomplishment
of the end to it would have been a work no part of
which had any other would naturally have been more
acceptable But at the present time no such work is in existence:
and as for any future time should life afford it the arrival of it
a far from being prevented by this publication is accelerated promoted
by it While he is has been printing only this I have from time been adding making
addition to the matter of the print Code: what so likewise he
himself, and both of us by the that then is printed, he has
in the meantime been occupied about the Penal Code which already, in
the same character of a joint, and only provisional production
is already by this time in the press: as also will be the Civil
Code while the Print is in the press.

With regard to to pressure of success, the sense of the problem
raised may as well effectually be taken by this and provisional
publication as by a compleated work.
