Objection 2. Such high
situations no fit objects
for obloquy

Men in the highest situation the country affords men
who tell now of late have been all of them vibrant excesses objects of utmost immoral
veneration reverence and admiration. There in page after pages
there in volume after volumes — that they should be droppt
as it were through the -ground with scorn and ignomity?
Such language testament is it defensible? such language
is it endurable.

Answer 1. Better than
a low one

Yes: to measurably and preponderantly beneficial
end every thing imaginable is not only endurable but
definable: yes: and the omission of it indefensible

And the regret of which these questions are the expression —
where is the reasonableness of it? What the cause of it

been produced of the suffering produced by the least bred of them
favourite of fortune. Where is the lawyer who for a prisoner
would scruple to pour forth upon him thus, and could he
find it worse?
