Here then was an unseen addition to the interest greatest

Calling it simply a licence is not doing justice to it

vague quantities, false assertions of notices and falsity on both sides
falshood — the demand, falshood in the defence,
false declarations, and false plea: all this licence in the
use, and in a comparatively small number of words with comparative
of irresistible depredator's profit
