For private prudence
the shutting oneself
up in the case of such
decease may be proper
But no reason for
the law to concurr in
opposing such restraint
In point On the score of private prudence it may or it may
be not proper for a person by whom a loss of this sort
has been sustained, to shut him or herself up for a
time, determinate or indeterminate, forbearing excluding
for a time the himself or herself from all intercourse with general acquaintance
The reason is — that in the case by the continuance of
such intercourse he might be subjected to the imputation
of hardheartedness But from this no reason can be
drawn deduced why the law should concurr in the preventing
of any such restraint No such imputation can in this
case attach upon him by in whose instance the breach of
that sort confinement in this shape has for its cause
the an ordinance of the law. By no person in any
such case can the breach of legal obligation be regarded
as a moral duty.
