Propositions
§ 4. No Oath
From religion not from any thing else must the objections to
objections to the disuse of this ceremony come whether
from that source any valid and adequate objections can
come the following observations which could not otherwise
have been inserted show
Of the incongruity as well as mischievousness of this
ceremony a pretty ample exposure has been made in
more publications than one, not a syllable in the way
of answer of those objections ever met with. If any
such objections could have been found would the
whole Church have been silent [What say My Lord
the Bishop, what the Ones he tries — ]
If in the Lords House neither by the Lords Spiritual in the of the Church of England persuasion nor by the Lords Temporal
of the Presbyterian persuasion any appropriate argument were
adduced against the proposed disuse of this ceremony, the arguments
in an support of the proposal may well be regarded as unanswerable.
