From the quantity of discourse employed in the description, no
just appretiation could be made of the quantity of time as occupied
by the operations themselves thus described. ⊞ ⊞ A page or two might be requisite to the to describe
the muscles employed muscular exertion in the production of a single note, a
dozen or two of which are performed produced by a musician in a
small minute fraction of a second. In this or that individual cause
this or that one of them would of itself occupy find employment weeks or months:
in this or that other individual cause, many of them or all of them would shrink
into nothing: Of the condition of civilized man would be too
disastrous to be borne endurable, if the latter case were not by far the more
frequently exemplified.
