In comparison of the part borne share taken by the Judge, the share
taken by the legislator in the production of that immense mass
of evil will be found very inconsiderable. The personal
advantage reaped by the from the Judge has it will be seen been
very great: and that in the most tempting generally tempting and irresistible shape, pecuniary
profit with power and reputation for the security
and embellishment of it. The personal advantage of reaped
by the legislator has in considerable comparison been but extremely
very slight: no more than a little a slight difference in the article
of : yet even that force we shall find productive of
no a share in the mischief, in itself very considerable
inconsiderable inferior only when put in comparison with that produced
by the Judge. Such may be the influence effect of a very slight
motive, where it finds nothing to counterbalance it on the other

In general when Setting aside this particular case instance
what has been done by the legislator towards the heaping
up of this immense mass of evil has been the result
