7. The blind and abject veneration so carefully
directed to jurisprudential under the name of common
law in contradistinction to statute law: to a species of
law in which the formation of analogy is the chief guide, in preference
to a species of law in which utility is the at least the only
professed guide: to a species of law made formed in other times
in preference of a species of law capable of being formed in
present times: to a species of law made formed in dark times
to a species of law formed in enlightened times: to a species
of law in the formation of which the representatives of the people had no
share to the prejudice of a species of law in the formation of
which the representatives of the people have a principal share,
to a species of law defiled in throughout its whole texture by mixed up with acknowledged lies and
elaborate laboured nonsense – to a species of law in which lies and
nonsense are seldom discernible and if any where to be
found, are no where to be f at lest not suffered admitted to enter
any where but through to in a word a species of law
of which the tenor being no where, the prospect is essentially
and universally perpetually unascertainable! in preference to what
a species of law of which the tenor, or all expressed conceived
is to be seen every whereday by eery body: in a word to a species of
law in which teaches blows inavertible blows are employed teaches by blows instead of words,
and of which the acknowledged quintessence of iniquity, the
character of an ex post facto law, are the characteristic
essence, in preference to a that paternal species of law of which it is
the avoidance of every thing that savours of that abomination
is the and constant care.
