Parochial Maps
Size
Such that a
man of ordinary
stature and ordinary
eye sight
may vew the
whole from top
to bottom without
being obliged to
raise himself
by steps &c.
As land in
Building Leases
in towns is
valued by the
foot, the scale
must be so large
as that the length
answering to that
foot, the logarithm
of the
fot int he Map
shall be distinctly
visible.

Nomenclature
Must be by Numbers
both ways.
Letters will not be
numerous enough.
This will make in
confusion.
In one number the
(say the first) the
division of the line
divided will be the
say the perpendicular
one, in the other
the horizontal one.
The two may be separated
and distinguished
by the word
by.
Thus 101 by 153
will be the square
which stands the
101 reckoning from
top to bottom, and
the 153 reckoning
from left to right.
From left to right
because that is the
way we read and
write.

Alterations
May be expressed
by adding fresh
draughts of the compartments
allowed
preserving always
the same scale, and
giving the numbers
of the new compartment
as on the original
map.
The year of the
alteration should
also be marked upon
this partial Map.
The history of the
Parish or other District will by this
means be exhibited
to the eye, and the
progress of improvement
<gap/> in a certain accordingly recorded.
Once in a certain
period (say a Century)
the alterations
will have been so
multiplied, and
the face of the country
so much changed
that it may be expedient
to make a
new map out of
the several alterations.
The Map of
London tempore
Elizabeth confront
it with the latest
modern survey
(say Horwoods). Reduce
Horwood's to the
same scale as that,
or vice versâ adding
same compartments
to each.
---page break---
Could the alterations
if level be expressed
graphically or otherwise?
Considerable objects
natural or artificial
should be exhibited.
Such as large old
trees or ponds &c.
