Past offences pardoned
on discovery
of accomplices

When a man is convicted or under arrest for
one misdemeanour, public notice to be given for
all persons to come in and accuse him of any other
crimes and misdemeanours: and after the expiration
of time on the notice, let him be discharged
of all other offences (with certain exceptions) upon
condition of naming his accomplices if he had any.

54
Offences against
God not to be punished
as such.

To avenge God is to deny either his power or his
justice

Theism independent of revelation furnishes us
with motives only not with precepts

We think God would will/is be angry, because
we think we ourselves should be angry were we
in his place. We think him proud, because we
are proud, irascible because we are irascible :
ready to take affronts, because we are ready to
take affronts. We think a want of respect on our
parts will give him pain; because a want
of respect in our inferiors towards ourselves on the part of one who is inferior to us gives
us pain. Such are our notions of the Divinity, when we are for punishing men on
the ground of their having
angered him
We don't consider that [it is] our
weakness that is the cause of our pride; and our
pride of our resentment: and that in God there is neither
weak nor proud. imbecillity nor pride.

We fear that without our assistance, the
decrees of omnipotence can not be carried into
effect [execution].

We for think to recommend ourselves to God,
by taking his part against those who anger vex him: which
is very kind of us considering that of himself he is not
able to make it good.
