That Hab Corpus should be extended to all the
British dominions. East Indies included: with
proper precautions whether by giving any some
kind of congruence to the LOCAL jurisdictions, or
otherwise to present vexations & abuses

Jany 4. The Master of a ship in the West India
Trade was brought before the Lord Mayor, charged
by the Father of his Apprentice, with selling him to
a Rope-maker of Nantucket. He had taken
the Lad from the London work-house
where he had got taken abroard, sold him. The Father
produced a letter from the Boy written with a stick
(for he could not procure a Pen) informing him of his
situation; but his Lordship could not admitt of that
as Evidence, & therefore the Captain was discharged.
