[3] EXEMPTIONS
In Even in their Legislation of rude nations, whose passions [always
transfuse themselves unconcocted into their Laws,
we may still observe instances of this passions'
retaining its original promiscuous direction
— among the Jews — a Beast that
had killed a man was put to death
even at Athens the law was to exterminate a Stone that had crushed a man by its
fall, was exterminated — instances of this sort
will offer themselves in crowds to a reader man of any
reading conversant with the history of rude nations
of all ages ancient & wisdom
The reader will pardon this a metaphysical digression

mind of the reader is quite ready to concur with the positions,
tho not for the reason on which I proved them they are founded supported.

or rather conferred to
towards or rather confines it to moral agents — A child
at first vents it's resentment indiscriminately against man Beast — stick

partly framed internally conceived intentionally partly inculcated by those around

on certain subjects effects impressions are produced correspondent to his
actions, on the others not if he displays anger towards his nurse
he plainly presently perceives correspondent anger or distress in her.
Smiles produce smiles [& caresses] but his cradle affords him
as such return pure considerations as I have said perpetually
