(17 ERRONEOUS DIVISION.
The same observation may be made with regard to the Law of Revelation — W Ration
regulation shall have been proved to be conducive to General Utility, that is to
produce a clear portion of happiness in Society, will thereby have been proved
to be agreable to that Law: if we believe that it's Author willeth the happiness of it's Creatures. under this Idea then therefore we shall [ not hastily be cautious here we] reproba
any Law whose subserviency to General Utility has been once clearly marked out
and asurtained or approve of any which shall have been demonstrated to detract
from it, under the authority of one or two more particular — texts of Scripture + + much less on that of a self-constituted Lawgiver Promulgator of the Law of ature Nature: keeping
for this purpose our attention fixed rather upon the design of the whole, than [the phraseology of]
detached parts & sentences. For we can be always be more certain that it is the pleasure a Benevolen
Being of infinite or indeed the most of very moderate moderate Benevolence willeth the greatest every
possible creature happiness of his those in his power creations than that we have are 'right in our
interpretation of an particular Texts: an interpretation contingenze <add>a pursuit</add> in which the most men of the greatest ingenuity

That [maxims derived from is no opposition between] his Principle of Utility is not opposed by [the precepts of]
Religion: that is there cannot be - that this avowed by the most eminent Deviser of
our own Religion; & if it were otherwise it is what is given to sofar Religion and not the Principle
of Utility that must give way : for that the no evidence of in favour of any
