Another mechanical help to perspicuity, to which many legal
writings are unprovided with are Breaks.

By Breaks every one understands to be meant the discontinuance
of the line of letter press in a certain stage of the discourse
for instance at the termination of the sentence.

These one sees are no more than quick notices given to the eye
of the assistances provided for the attention.

Breaks in the printing suppose breaks in the discourse

Early printers used no breaks.

Lawyers make the page one word, as they make the Term one
day: as if pleased with usurping the same dominion over —
space, which they pretend to over time.

Difficult to say in what cases there always shall be a break
. . Perhaps there should not be ever where the sentence
is not compleat within itself — as where the Nominative case
is a Pronoun.
