Treason.

cannot be a more unfaithful picture than this discription is as brought home to the present times: and the very term
Rebellion indicating a crime, & standing for a mark an evidence of depravity, as applied to the disorders which
have agitated the country, wit is pregnant with fallacy.

Rebellion is no more the growth of our Isle than it is the growth of any other Country where
there has been a disputed succession, Rights equivocal & undefendd & Religious controversies in a wide rage fomented by the hand, of Tyranny. When
the one. When the first is permanent & settled, the second marked out , & defined , the last sank into the contempt
which they deserve, Rebellion is no more.

It is no more the growth of this country, than it is of France because it was one continu a slaughter house while
under the descendants of Glars & Charlemagne when a King died, nobody knew who was to succeed
him , & where rights & Territory were divided nobody knew whose was which ; when mankind
had nothing to do, but cut one anothers throats or lay down and sleep slumber.
