C 5 Of Extenuations — Reasons
that he will do the same sort of mischief, or
any sort of mischief, when he is sober: nor from
his having been drunk once does it follow absolutely
that he will be drunk again. To
get drunk in any case is a folly and with regard to him <add>a man's self
: to get drunk
when once he knows by experience that it makes
him liable to do mischief to others is misbehaviour
with regard to others: as such it
may be very proper that it should be punished:
but it does not follow that he should be punished
with the same degree of severity as if the damage
had been premeditated and intentional.
