Comprehensiveness of the Division here given. To do attempt this would be a curious and interesting
business undertaking:: but happily not here a necessary one.
Pleasures of the sorts last just enumerated, are
not among those which it has been the
custom or is in the power of Law to give
or to take away.
It is sufficient that they are pleasures : nor should
there it be found that they at best am are but Pleasures
of Expectation dependent on this that
are called sensual , would there be any inconvenience
in ranking speaking Of them as independen original pleasures
and ranking them with those of enjoyment.
At any rate <add>Tis but an affair of words. At any rate</add> They have their attendant pleasures
of expectation: they have their correspondent
pains of Prevention Disappointment, and Apprehension.
Tis for this reason it will be convenient
to speak of them as Pleasures of enjoyment,
though they should be found to have the
expectation of other pleasures namely , those P called
sensual, for their basis. We come now to an
enquiry of more practical importance - how to
estimate their value, of them; and thence of the causes that produce them:
