HomeAn abode of the Constable of the place to be printed & pasted against
every milestone in a Turnpike Road with penalty for
defacing covering or pulling down i=e: generally doing
any thing whereby it may become difficult or impracticable to be seen.

In every Turnpike house the names and abodes of all the
constables for all the Parishes & through which the road
runs to it's termination or to the next Town or next Turnpike
gate both ways.

Also on Market-Houses & Church Doors, the names &
abodes of the Constables for the 12 nearest Parishes all
around.

Qu. Whither the name and abode of the Constable might
not be so printed to stick on the Mile stone as that the letters
may be traceable in the Dark by the Touch - for instance
by gumming them & strewing on a metallic or other powder

In certain parts of Italy the letters on Mile Stones are
of Iron inlaid into the Stone.
