Compared with the above standard, the word frivolous
presents at least equal difficulty, and seems at least as
ill qualified for expressing what it was desirable it should
express.

It is that the value of the article in demand is trifling – so trifling
as not to be worth the care of the Legislator or the Judge?
My Lord, there exists no such article. All value is relative.
There are those in this country, each of them as well entitled
to the care of government as any other – there are those in this
country to each of whom a shilling is of as much importance
as £50 to each of a number of others that might
be named: and moreover, take the stock of the most opulent
corn dealer that ever existed, he if each single grain of his stock
be out of the protection of the law, so is the whole. then so is the whole. Take
any single grain, if he to whom it rightfully belongs is
in the wrong for claiming demanding it, how much more in the wrong
is he who denies it when demanded?
