Scotch Reform J.B. to People
Think not – myself, I am sure, I am far enough
from thinking that if it were new ever so compleatly
new the novelty of that which is proposed ought to be received
in the character of as a peremptory objection. There is nothing good or bad that so good in it
but that at some time or other it was new.
But since even this miserable objection of innovation has
no application against what is proposed, I an objection which
no man comes out with who has any better to produce – an
objection which when it comes to be confesses the absence non-existence of any other
I will not sit still and suffer even this miserable object to pass against
it.
The truth is – so it does happen – there is nothing
at all new in it. There is nothing in it the benefit of
which is not certified and without contradiction, becomes beyond all possibility of contradiction
by the most extensive and irresistible mass of experience.
