Mercury, as everybody knows, was the God of lies: Plutus
the God of riches. The temple of Plutus had divers avenues,
and one of them through Mercury! Every English
lawyer is by religion an idolator, Mercury and Plutus are
his Gods. Ld Bacon, who read
so much wisdom in his own
mind, fancying or pretending
fancy that it was in the
books of the Ancients he was
reading it, might with another
look, but with a look which it would not have pleased him to give, have read this along with the rest.

But to Be it so: but to what good use
or with what consistency, can the Jury-box, the chosen ark sanctuary of truth, the refuge of the poor and needy, be placed in
it either temple?
