13 Jany 1807
To what end Why then put Your Lordship's justice upon this false secret?
represent temerity rather than mala fides as the enemy mischief
to be guarded against?
My Lord, for this plain reason: to lead your Lordships
justice astray from the true cause: to prevent the discovery your
finding out that the mischief has its root true root of the mischief is to be looked for not in the
heart of the suitor, but in that of the Judge: that of suitors
tread on the paths of iniquity it is one in consequence of the
invitation encouragement held out to them by Judges: an encouragement
whereby they are invited to join in the conspiracy come in
and in the character of mala fide suitors and defendants
divide with the lawyers the spoils of the innocent when
the lawyers after are able as they are willing no less able than willing to deliver
into their hands.
