Ever doubting hesitating, never doing deciding; always ever about
to do, never doing: communication of intentions never
pursued, liberal of notice countermanded or contravened
without notice: discovering in every each question the common
properties of all questions importance and difficulty: and
in every difficulty, discovering, if not to himself to others
his incapacity of coping with it. Undertaking so many
things performing nothing: ever ready to stop, never ready to go on:⊞ ⊞ opposing every thing, because comprehending nothing, censuring condemning every thing correcting nothing eager to communicate to every
other hand the palsy that arrests his own the tremor by which his own is paralysed.
Minute without accuracy, diffuse without plenitude,
quarralous or petulant without dignity, garrulous
without thought
atoning for scantiness of matter by superfluity
of words.
A character of this sort may be conceived, and in
the way of hypothesis spoken of without danger. But
should it happen to any man to conceive of it as being
realized, and realized in the person of any Chancellor of the Chancellor of any , not
to speak of Judges of lowest form a Judge in any lower form I would recommend
it to him to read the case of the King versus Judge Johnston
before he took upon him to suffer any such conception to
express consign itself in black and white:
To Of the mind of any unknown assistant or substitute of the noble and
learned dignitary head of the line, the character in so far as expressed by the power efficiency
of his pen, might be delineated with less reserve.
