TURNP ACT. New. Prelude. VI

Adjective not in constant demand for Notification. Upon taking casting a glance at on the several Sections which take
their title from a distinct particular class, we may observe
that the provisions in thesem Sections are of such a
nature as that (with exception to Trustees to whom
their office is but an occasional occupation) the a person
of belonging respectively to those classes are is under an obligation to have them
present for a constancy to his in his minds: at least to is
must <add>ought</add> to have he thus to be master of every provision at the conjuncture
when he is about to exercise that branch of his occupation
which is regulated by it — It is not the same
with those of the last Section. He who means not obeys
to disobey the Law, may ease his mind if the contemplation has nothing to do with that apparatus
which is calculated only to bring down
punishment on the disobedient. Were he who It is sufficient
if he give credit to the Law for the of
that punishment, will be brought about without knowing <add>precisely understanding how</add> precisely the in what manner]
of it's accomplishment. being brought to bear Even he who disobeys,
has no present call to study it, but in the event of
a prosecution Some are calculated guard him against dangers which the majority never apprehend: others to check restrain him from .... artifices which it is not the ingenuity of not one in a hundred would that assume imagine <add>the .</add>

A Principle of distinction so thus simple & also thus obvious,
which has its so obvious a reason belonging to it for fixing it in
the memory, when once apprehended, seems to be in
no danger of being forgotten. where once got into the apprehension, seems in no danger of ever [falling out.] getting out of call. There is therefore no danger of a man's not thinking of using making use of it, nor [causa qua supra f....] of his being at a loss how to use it when he does.

It is no more to be wondered at, that persons capable
of writing with all elegance & correctness the common language of their words should
fall into errors when

than if a graceful . . . . should hobble in
the dress of a man in armour upon stilts. at say a Lord
Mayor's shew.

This being the case, it is not the whole quantity of writing,
that is properly to be charged to the it's account of this one Statute.
As a Burthen to the memory, The obligation of Ideas indeed contained
in these generalizable polychratic axioms is incumbent
in the same a distinct manner as well upon [the persons
who are] the objects persons command of this Title of the Law as upon
those of any other. But to consider the material
space occupied by the words which are their sizes
the circumstance of the generality of their application
saves to many intents the necessity of multiplying it.

Suppose the whole number of these universal axioms to occupy
when committed to Paper a space of 3 8".
pages: I suppose the number of different classes
of persons noticed by the Law to be an hundred
For To notify them make proper provision therefore for the notifying
to the respective classes, they must enter into
the composition of a hundred different Instruments.
In this sense they would occupy 300 pages.
But to him, who, alike interested in all these
hundred Titles whether as a Lawyer or a Legislator,
should have occasion to know that as so
much as this part comes to, all these Instruments

are identical, instead of 300 pages, they would be
but 3. 3 only that therefore & no greater would be the number
which they would occupy in a collection destined
for his use —

Now suppose in all the part in question each of these Instruments
or in a considerable number of them (which would
come to the same thing) some verbal variation,
which might or might not affect the Sense; they
become immediately 300 — The Burthen remaining as it was before to each of them, is increased
to him an hundred-fold. Of Such [is the]
consequence is System.

It may be thought, that the . . . . . . . & . .
Sections might have made back have included in the . . .
they were separated from it, merely for the sake
of a rigorous adherence to the plan, of not
burthening any denomination of persons with
more than that precise portion which concerns
them.

It is the property of A well-consider'd Law will to embrace not past facts
only, but future probabilities.
