This omission at least turns the Sanction from that of an Oath into a bare assertion, the falsehood of which may not always be apparent to them to whom it is made. Indeed, for any thing that appears in the act, a
man may refuse reject [to take] the Oath without any
pretense, without any further inconvenience or hazard
that what may be supposed to result from the presumption
of his not having the qualificationarising from his refusal to take this bit of it. a hazard which many may little regard,
trusting to men's the reluctance the little probability <add>risk of a man's assuming of men to assume
the invidious character of informer, for the chance
of the small surplus surplus that may remain out of £50 after
the charges of prosecution.
