Upon the most conspicuous part of Carriages of Burthen viz. on the most conspicuous part thereof
or upon the Tilt used with it them, shall be painted in large and legible
characters the names and place of abode of some the owners and an owner
using it either by himself or any other, without such the names and or
[place of] abode so painted or with a false or fictitious name [or [place of] abode]
shall forfeit £5., [or suffer imprisonment for

Whoso useth such an Instrument applied to a carriage to retard
it's descent down hills as is commonly called a Drag-Iron, or other such Instrument used to retard a Carriage in the descent not
being smooth at bottom and of breadth at least equal to that of
the Wheels, shall forfeit £ 40s or suffer imprisonment for weeks.

not exempted, it shall not be permitted to pass on.
