against it, and lead him to suspect some fallacy it may
be expedient to enter a little deeper into the subject —
Aware of the discrepancy of many of the consequences
of my principles with the common and popular notions
upon the subjects to which they will be successively applied.
I do shall not cease to give my Reader due notice at every
important and bidding period position & of it's consequences that he may administer apply all
the caution circumspection in the deciding upon <add>provisions to the absolute</add> he and turn himself it round on all sides
so as not to be surprized into an assent which the a more particular view of
the consequences may might inspire him hereafter incline him to retract — on the other hand
when after mature and thorough consideration he finds entire
reason to admit the principle position he will on his part not reject
it afterwards tho' the consequences may at first sight be appear extraordinary
and be such as he has not been hitherto accustomed
to — I will therefore proceed to consider why the notion
of vengeance so natural and so necessary to individuals upon past facts <add>acts</add>
ought not notwithstanding to be received by them in a collected
body in their provisions against future [facts]
