GATE-WAYS. § 4.

Where [they may be made] & how Gateways may be left in Party Walls of Buildings near the Thames for Carriages to pass to
the Wharf on the river with one or more proper Breast Summers over them
Wall above. Provided But the Wall above § 5 must be of the thickness of one a Brick and a half or 13 Inches.

A BUILDING of A SECOND Building how to join a former.

Timbers Where a Party Wall is already built, the Builder of a House which is to adjoin thereto, may
lay in laying may cut into it, for the purpose of laying in Girders Binding-Joists & Templets: but he
Indents For Partition Walls or Chimneys must observe the same restrictions as the Builder he who built it, such Party Wall viz: such as are contained in the .... & a
&c ......... Articles.

For Steps of Stone Such 2d Builder may make Indents into the ends of adjoining Front-Walls Party Walls for the following
purposes & no other
For Steps of Wood Of not more than 4 Inches deep into the Party Wall for the inserting of Jambs of Chimneys & Partition Walls
Of not more than 4 Inches for the
Of Of not more than 4 Inches into the Front-Wall, for joining the Walls Between House &
House
Of not more than 4 Inches into any [Party of] The Front Wall to lay into it Timbers for Steps of Wood.
Of not more than 5 Inches into [any Party of] Front Wall to lay into it steps of Stone.

CHIMNEYS.

Jambs & Backs Chimnies Jambs and Backs of Chimnies shall be in the [Cellar or] lowest Story of the thickness
of at least not less than [either] a Brick & a half or 13 Inches: from thence to the upper Story
of [either] than one Brick or 9 Inches
Widths Widths in the inside of Chimnies shall be of the Thickness of not less than a Brick or Broadways
or 4 Inches
Funnels Funnels of Chimnies shall be plaister'd [or pargetted] without side to where on the inside over every
part from Bottom to Top, & on the outside to the Ceiling of the Upper Story
Flues The Flues of Chimnies shall on the outside of Party-Walls next to any vacant Ground
shall be Limewhited from the Bottom of the Building to the Roof.
Under Hearths Chimnies shall be [turned or] arched under the Hearth with Brick, except in the lowest
Story Mantles between the Jambs of Chimnies shall be either arched over with Brick, + + Stone omitted. or set upon
one or more Iron Bars
No Timber shall be placed [lie or] be placed nearer than 5 Inches to any Chimney or
Fire place
Nor any Wood whatever nearer to the inside of any Jamb or Mantle than 5 Inches

STOVES BOILERS and OVENS.

No Stove Oven Oven, Copper or other Boiler, or other shall be set up [fixed or ] otherwise than
with Iron Brick or Stone.
Nor shall they their Flues be placed nearer than 9 Inches to any Wood.
