CATECHISM

That a resolution to renounce the Flesh and the Devil amounts to nothing, any further
than as it is explained, what is Flesh and what Devil; Flesh and Devil are the Felony and Premunire [of Morality] that whatever reasons of
wisdom of necessity of temper might have determined the first planters of our religion to
renounce the world, those of it's present professors who should make such a resolution, would
deserve that it should renounce them — That the vague aphorisms of Oriental morality are of no novice further crafted than they are translated into modern language That the present professors of Xtianity should speak English for the same reason that it's first spoke Hebrew

That the it's Pomps and vanities of the world are some of those things which hold Society
together: that it is useless a resolution to renounce them is useless for one set of an in one set part of man, mankind impracticable
in another, and dangerous pernicious to a third: that it is the desire of them alone which alone [draws men
from sleep or sordid gratifications - and] gives motion to half the virtues —

Et cetera

If we give due consideration to consider all these things we shall see reason, not to prohibit proscribe this crude composition of
a semibarbarous Hierarchy priesthood, in a language which their wiser successors feel is convenient to disuse, see the convenience of disusing but
to leave it to sleep in that neglect in which those professo successors seem [in general] for the most part disposed to
suffer it to remain; to secure the [acception and inculcation] by the sanctions of Law of that
only which shall be chosen for it's being efficacious and understood — 2. How many great Crimes are there? A. x.
