When While occupied in committing to paper what my thoughts
the result of my enquiries on the subject of Parliamentary
reform,(a) at one part division and that the a principal division
one of the host of fallacies presented itself to
my view at every time as being sure certain of being
set in array against it as lying in wait being under , prepared
to attack fall upon and overwhelm with its for whole force every thing whatsoever that
should be brought forward on that side. The Of this
whole division the use, the great and universal use was in one word to
combat whatsoever in the way of government and legislation promised
to be of aimed at being of general use and against which no rational well-grounded
objection no other objection than a fallacious one
could be made: and in as the character of a source
and pledge of all the rest every thing else other measure possessing the any such
tendency, parliamentary reform would of course
be made to bear the principal brunt.
