§.5. II of the Outs

The persons by whom
the fallacies of the
Ins and do of the
Outs are employed
are the same:
viz. in possession
when Ins: in expectancy
when Outs

Fallacies useful to the Outs are all that serve to diffuse &
impede or discredit good measures proposed by the Ins.

§. 5 Fallacies of the Outs — their general nature.

If, in speaking of the Outs regard be had
to the persons thus described, in the fallacies in
which the Ins find the means of defence, for such viz for whatever viz for such
abuses and other imperfections, whatsoever they be,
in which they behold sources of profit to themselves
[+] which in defence
of their more immediate
interests they find
an interest in setting
to work
whatsoever fallacies there be may be to be found in which the dissemination of which in the view of which they have an
a sinister interest, in the same fallacies have the Outs also
the like interest: the difference between possession
and expectancy being constituting the only difference.(a)

But at any given
time fallacies of
the Ins will not
all suit [the position
of] the Outs:
nor vice versa

But, if regard be had to Turn to Look at the their position in circumstance of
which they stand, act, the fallacies which we
shall see reason to class under the general denomination belong to the position of the Ins
of fallacies of the Ins, will be seen to
have no application to the case position of the Ins Outs.
The position of the Outs will at the same time be
seen to have a set of fallacies peculiar to itself

Fallacies, peculiar
to the position of the
Outs, are such as
promise to promote
this impropriety
thence the discussion
of the Ins

Fallacies peculiar to the position of the Outs, are
such as the tendency of which is to be cast reproach
upon the Ins promote the discussion of the Ins: to promote
it viz. in the only way in which it is in the power of
arguments proper or improper relevant or irrelevant to promote any such
event, viz. by lowering them in the estimation of those their measures, and thence the authors and promoters of those
measures
[to whom it belongs to judge.] and whose judgment presents a
prospect of being contributory to such event.
