§. Lawyers interest sinister

[But] If their own rules a well known rule of theirs were good for any thing
neither this opinion nor any other opinion delivered
by any one of themselves ought to receive any in the question what ought to be law
in any such question to would be treated received with any the smallest
degree of regard. For in any such question
no question such evidence can be delivered, of
which it has not been already shewn that it comes
under the denomination of interested evidence: evidence
which if permitted to be delivered would be delivered
under the bias of interest created by the force. True it is that if any
such exclusionary rule were consistently
adhered to, Judication would be an idle ceremony, and
the bands of society would quickly be depleted. True
it is that accordingly they do not adhere to it with
any thing like consistency: hence it is that as as with
so many other of their rules rules, they keep to it or
break from it at pleasure. But it is not the
less among the number of their rules: it is not
the less in the number of their rules on the
excellence and inviolability of which they are ready
at any time to expatiate in the strongest terms.

Being thus interested

according to
his own rules, such
his declaration of opinion
would not be
so much as bearable
Conceditur were those
rules consistently conformed
to, judication would be
useless, society dep:
accordingly they are
not so conformed to
but conformed to or
broken each time at pleasure.
But they are not the
less of the number
of their rules the
excellence and inviolability
of which
he is never tired of
trumpeting.
