<head>Fallacies
Ch. Authority worshippers
§.4. Churchmen's sinister interest
14
7. But the subject what it may, in the present instance
But in the field of legislation and government the more strongly it is a man's interest
to propagate fallacy, with the better grounded assurance
may it be pronounced of him (individual
character out of the question) that on every occasion
it will in relation to that same subject it will be his
study and endeavour to give currency and efficiency
to fallacy: and the more assuredly it is
a mans study and endeavour to give currency
and efficiency to fallacy, the more assuredly will
the aim and tendency of any opinion he delivers
be to promote deception, and therefrom in the character
of authority, the less fit to be received.

7. Lastly, the stronger
the interest by which
a man is urged to
give currency to
fallacy, and thus
propagate deception
the more likely that
such will be his
endeavour: therefore
in the character of
authority, to serve
as a standard and
model for the opinions
of others, the less fit
will his own opinion
be.
