quarter the superiority

Even in the fold ground of religion it is not without exceptions
and limitations and sal and inconsistencies in abundance
that from that antient fountain those antique fountains our own
practice is recommended or suffered to be derived:
on that ground, whatever be the period, our ancestors are
either wise or weak according to what as their being
in the one case or the other is best most conveniently adapted to
existing circumstances and established purposes.
