Privileges and Customs

In respect regard to oaths and perjury the matter
stands as follows

On the registration of his name On his matriculation in the University
books Previously to his matriculation (this is the
name given to the operation of entry entering his a person name
upon the University Register Books. "As many
(says the Statute) as apply to have their names
entered upon the the University Register Book
(Matriculon) if they have attained the age of sixteen
(which is almost always the case) he there subscribe
the Articles of Faith and Religion (the 39 Articles):
and for the acknowledgement of the Royal Supremacy
as also for fidelity towards the University,
and keeping observance of its Statutes, Privileges and Customs
according to the form hitherto to this time in use, let them
take their corporal oaths. Then follow partial
exemptions for two lower degrees in the scale of age.

Respecting the observance of the University laws as above, so far
is in as concerns the description of the course of conduct promised to be observed
p.250
is no distinct additional form of an oath given, other than
as above. there is no
but the form set purport of it if not the very lines may be
sufficiently collected from what is above. Nor yet,
of the ceremonial part, viz. of the combination of
the words by the pronuntiation of which and the
gestures by the exhibition of which, the power of the
Almighty is supposed to be pledged for to the punishing
of transgressions which otherwise he would not have punished,
or in some manner in which he would not otherwise have punished them
