Factitious dignity
Among the products of form and ceremony is factitious dignity:
factitious dignity in all its various forms: factitious dignity by
which Vice as when thus dignified that Vice which could not not otherwise be exalted is
exalted, Virtue when uncloathed with it unarrayed in this tinsel, proportionably
depressed, and every man, under when thus tricked out, so dignified made to be judged
of according otherwise than according to his works.
This likewise may be numbered among the supports
of the Constitution: meaning of course by the Constitution, as often as thus
indiscriminately eulogized, every thing that is bad in it.
