Example. In H. of Commons Friday 23 May 1823
or thereabouts Markes Animal-cruely preventing Bill thrown
out. Brougham against it Why punish dog-fighting
and Bull baiting when don't punish Hare-hunting
Fox hunting and Shooting.

Thus In an Excursus of Friday 23 May
laud of this speech of Broughams defending dog-fighting
and Bull-baiting as being sports of the poor

Thus because they could not get one good thing
done they would not suffer to be done another good thing which
but for this unprincipled opposition might have been
done.. For a former Bill on this subject, how inadequate soever
to its purpose, was passed into an Act.

The mischief accruing to man, — by suffering it to be tacitly
laid down as a principle of legislation that the rich may
be indulged in any enormity, the poor alone are
to be repressed, — In exasperation occasioned to the
poor by such barefaced partiality, — more than outweighs
the amount of good proposed to animals by such a
partial measure.
