Fallacies ad judicium
excluding Fallacy of this Section

§ The Blind-Deaf-and-Dumb-man-aper's
device.

This device consists in leaving altogether without
notice all such arguments as you are most
pressed by: all such to which apt and adequate
answers can not be found.

This negative device is at once the safest, the easiest
and compared with the aggregate of all devices of the positive
cast, where circumstances allow the use of it, the
most effective. Of all Positive Fallacies it is the common
property and the common weakness, that being, in every instance each of
them, medically and effectually weak, their weakness is in every instance
liable to be exposed. In process of time Sooner or later, their nakedness
will be to such a degree will their nakedness be uncovered
that the bare utterance of its name will in the instance
of, each and every one of them, suffice for the exposure if it, and
quick as lightning [if by a touch of Harlequin's
sword,] will divest it of all its delusive influence.[+]
[+] When the art of
reasoning has in its exercise
arrived at this
degree of maturity
[+] When things are
come to that pass state
, to
take in hand any
fallacy other than this
will be to furnish
arms against a man's
self.

The Blind-Deaf and-Dumb man-apers device is Compleatly-proof against all such exposure.
proof.
