In the appearance of a any literary novelty,
though the thing should happen to speak now so plainly for itself,
a reader is apt to wait for a little familiar & confidential conversation with the author expect to hear what the author
has to say for himself in the authorial
of authors – in a word what he has to say for and about
his work. On the present occasion in particular This expectation is too reasonable, as
well as too natural, not to be gratified. How the
publication design came to be undertaken – what its uses are –
what the plan of it is – on all these and a
variety of other points endeavours will be used to
give him satisfaction.
