Times Octr 7 1801
In proof of the
high perfection to
which the breed
of sheep has been
carried on in this
Country, we have
to mention that a
two-shear wether
belonging to Mr.
Moneyhill of Waterden
in Norfolk on being
lately killed was
found to weigh 94
lb, and that the bone
weighed only 4 1/2 lb. the
proportion of meat
to bone being nearly
as twenty to one! This
proportion should be
more generally attended
to in order to shew
the fair results of
such experiments.

Colonies.
Biographical Dict.
Vol I p. 420
Appian

... They (the Romans)
were Masters of above
half of Britain; but
neglected the rest as
he informs us, because
it was of no use to
them, and they received
but little advantage
from what they possessed.
There were
several other countries
which cost them more than
they gained by them,
but they thought
it dishonorable to
abandon them. This
occasioned them to
neglect the opportunities
of making
themselves masters
of many other nations,
and to satisfy
themselves with giving
them kings,
as they did to the
Greater Armenia.
He assures us likewise,
that he saw
at Rome, ambassadors
from several
countries of the
Barbarians, who
desired to submitt
to the Roman Empire,
but were rejected
by the Emperor
because they
were poor and consequently
no advantage
could be expected
from them.
