find from Experience that the
complicated Engine Pumps
are not calculated for Sea
Service, and are going back to
the Chain Pumps, which are
so easily put to rights when
they happen to get out of order,
which can not be done with
those of a complicated construction.
26. Measuring of Timber to be
under the Convertor.
This may be proper if such
an Officer should be established,
but proper checks will be
necessary even with the most
attentive Individual.
30. Proposes to abolish the Culkers
as a separate Branch.
It would certainly be desirable
if every Shipwright was
what is called a double handed
man; but that can only be
done progressively with new
apprentices. At present it is
altogether impracticable.
