It also appears that the number of Convicts
at present under Contract to be maintained in
380 that the Yearly Average of the felons who
were ordered ordered for Transportation during a
Period of Six years & an half from the 1st of
Novr 1769 to the 1st of May 1776 amounts to
960 of wch a 4th being deducted for Women which
is nearly the Proportion that appears from the
Account given to yr of Persons transported
in those Six years & an half there remains 720 males
liable to the Punishment of Hard Labour on the
River Thames except such as from bad Health or
Weakness may be deemed unfit for it.
It appears further that three several Contracts
for providing for Convicts sentenced to Hard Labour
have been made by the Lords Comrs of the Treasury
with Mr. Campbell f the first being at the rate of
of £38 a Man by the year which for 120 Convicts
amounts to the Sum of £4560.
The Second at the rate of £26-15-10 3/4 per Man
by the Year which for 130 Convicts amounts to the
Sum of £3483-7-6.
The Third on the same Terms as the Second for 130
Convicts from January 1778 to July 1779.
It also appears that the Value of the Labour done
by the Convicts in Woolwich Warren in making a
Wharf, a Proof Butt, Digging Ditches & other
useful Works amounts to £3355 & that the
Value of their Labour in raising Ballast is computed
at £2703-12-6.
Upon the whole your Comittee came to
the following Resolutions –
