loose I found the Prisoners pulled them about and
were careless of them. I then order'd them to be
nailed upon the Platforms – at first many of
the convicts or their friends brought Blankets,
those that did not I provided them with a Rug
so that each had a Rub – there was besides a
large Sheet of Canvas allow'd to each mass of six.

That That plan was continued till August
1777 when it was necessary to make provision for
another number of 120.

The first Convicts came in August 1776.
On the 10th Octr, I made a Report to the Secretary
of State that there were then on board 84 and
none sick.
None sick or dead before that time.
A little before & after the 10th 64 Prisoners came
from Maidstone and other Gaols.

I think then the infection came among the Prisoners
as they began to droop and sicken very fast.

Upon the 28th Nov. another Report was
made when it appeared that 3 were then dead
of those from the County Gaols. They appeared
sick when they came to me.

The next Report was on Jany. 1777.

Between the two Reports I received 20 more.
In that August I lost 8: 6 of whom were of
the Country People.
