The Boys work at the Wheel Barrows.
We allow the Scaffold Men 1/6 a day.
I think the Convicts earn as much when they
work Seven Hours. The Convicts were a brown
Jacket. Some of their Shirts are indifferent one
they appear upon a Monday as if they had clean
Linen on the Sunday.

I have been employed by Mr. Campbell
to take Care of the Convicts from the 25th of Septr.
1776. I am his principal Deputy. Some of
the Felons are a little refractory, but upon the whole
their Behaviour has been good.
There are 40 People besides myself to take care
of them – 6 or 7 Principal Officers besides myself – none
of the 40 are Felons.
The Felons have been healthy some time past
since about Octr. or Novr. last.
They seem all satisfied with the Provision
allowed them, & contented with their Beds there
is very little Smell in the Morning where they
lie. We get them upon Deck as soon as its light
in the Morning & clean out the Place – there is
no bad smell in the Hospitals, less there than in
other Places.
The Boys are employed in cleaning the Ship
& some on Shore. The little Boys in cleaning the
Ship – there are about 6 or 8 too little to work on
the Shore.
There is one Man on Board with one Leg
