A Separate Apartment might be made to
keep the Boys from the Men – the Convicts
are put down at 7 OClock & got up at 5 now.
The Men were very melancholy at their
first Arrival, they have been in better Spirits
since some have been pardoned – those pardoned
were healthy.
2/3ds of the Convicts have Cloathing found by
Mr. Campbell – they have a Brown Jackett Two
Shirts & they shirt every Sunday, they are washed
& shaved – washed often & shaved once a Week –
this has been so ever since I have been there –
there is more Difficulty in keeping them clean
than in keeping them to Labour.
They are allowed no Strong Liquors only
Small Beer.
There is but little Trouble to make them
work. Twenty four have escaped. We
allow no Swearing if they do we lick them
with a Rattan about
Mr. Campbell pays one.
Withdrew
(Mr. Campbell produced Report of Convicts
ordered to hard Labour from 11th Febry 1778 to
26th. March 1778)
Evidence closed
From the Evidence above stated It appears
that from August 1776 to the 26th of March 1778
