The bore of the ex discharging tube, i:e: the relative comparative capacity of
the aperture of letting out air will be
indicated and measured in the manner of
the electrometer by the angle formed by
the valve as it turns upon a hinge on the
circumference.
This will only indicate the velocity
i:e: the relative velocities in the different degrees
of heat.⊞ ⊞ It will not show the space travelled even by a given particle of air within a given time.
To know As to the quantity issuing from a
given bore with a given degree of heat, it
can no otherwise be known than by
measuring the room to be heated, and
observing the degree of extra-heat given to
it in a given time, by the apparatus
in question.
But independently of these observations,
the degree of heat corresponding to a degree
of elasticity may be known more generally
in another num manner – by a distinct
experiment.
