Provision against EscapesConstruction
Escapes

§ Provision made against Escapes.

It may be of use to recapitulate and draw
together in one point of view the provision made
against escapes.

If against such accidents there were no
provision at all made in the prison itself,
the provision made against it by the construction
and mode of guarding on the outside is such
as seems of itself sufficient to place it at least
upon a par in this respect with any prison as
yet known.

Conserve a miracle, and let these defenses to share the fate of the
walls of Jericho. Put yourself into the place of a
prisoner, and think of all the ways in which it
would be possible to escape.
